About Dr. Melanie Thomas

Melanie Thomas is the founder of Competitive Edvantage Sports and currently serves as the organization’s CEO.  She holds a Doctorate in Physical Therapy from the University of Texas Medical Branch and a BBA in Accounting from Sam Houston State University.  She also is a Board Certified Orthopedic Specialist and Certified Sports and Orthopedic Manual Therapist. These elite credentials from the American Board of Physical Therapy Specialties signifies her in-depth knowledge and skills in orthopedic physical therapy. Thomas embraces the concept of evidence-based medicine. In treating physical therapy patients and training sports performance clients, she draws upon current research, to incorporate scientifically validated methods into her daily practice. 

Her areas of expertise include treating general orthopedic and sports injuries as well as individuals who suffer from back, neck, shoulder, hip, and knee pain. Over the years, Melanie has honed her skills with orthopedic and sports related injuries. She currently works with high school, collegiate, and professional athletes in all sports. She has had the opportunity to treat and train players from Los Angeles Dodgers, Milwaukee Brewers, New York Yankees, and Baltimore Orioles, just to name a few.

Dr. Thomas’ treatment utilizes a variety of manual techniques along with specific exercises and movements. She believes that a majority of individuals can benefit from individualized conservative treatment strategies and avoid unnecessary medications, injections, and surgeries. Her primary goal is to help bridge the necessary gap from rehab to returning to the exercises and activities you enjoy.

She currently resides in Houston and is married to Dr. Jackie C. Thomas, Jr. They have two children, Mia and Jackson.
